With the new year in full swing perhaps you have made some goals for yourself, or possibly want to try something new and share your passions. What better way to do that than with a blog! Maybe you have a passion for travel and want to document and share your adventures. Or are you the creative type? Share your creations! One of the many great things about a blog is that the possibilities are truly endless.
I have always enjoyed creating things but never thought to start a blog and share my creations until my husband mentioned it. Thanks Hubs! My first thought when he mentioned it was “How do you even start a blog, and who is even going to read it?” Well after conquering my initial trepidation and doing a little research, Anything & Everything was born in just a few simple steps!
How to Start a Blog!
Step 1: Buy your domain name & set up Hosting account
While researching this I stumbled upon Bluehost. I am so happy that I found them, everything was super easy to set up and they have an amazing customer service team, that are always there 24/7 to answer your questions.
So first things first, you will need to decide on your blog name. Once you have that decided than it is time to set up your domain name and hosting account. Although my blog name is Anything & Everything, that domain name was unavailable so that is why I added the my in front to have my domain name be myanythingandeverything.com.
The best thing with Bluehost, they offer free domain names when you purchase your hosting account through them! So you can get everything all-in-one!
Here are the simple steps to signing up with Bluehost and being on your way to adventures in blogland!
Step 2: Select your plan:
Choose which plan option is going to work best for you and click select.
Step 3: Register or transfer your domain name.
Step 4: Enter in your contact info, pick your plan, and enter in your billing info.
Step 5: Install WordPress
Once you have completed all the steps above, you will need to check your email. Bluehost will send you an email with your control panel (cpanel) login. The link in the email will redirect you to the Bluehost Homepage. Click login located at the top right corner of the homepage. Enter your cpanel login info from your welcome email.
Once logged in, it is time to install WordPress. Click the WordPress icon under Website Builders to get the ball rolling!
Next you will get a screen like this. Just click start to install WordPress.
Step 6: Choose where to install WordPress
Simply select your domain from the dropdown menu, then click check domain.
Step 7: Enter your WordPress login info
Check the box Show advanced options. Enter your sites name or title, pick your Admin Username, and password, and your email address. Make sure to write all this info down, as it will be your login for WordPress once it is all installed. Read and agree to the terms then click the install now button.
Step 8: Congratulations! You have successfully started a blog! Welcome to Blogosphere!
Once you click install now, this screen will pop up. Wait until it shows status success and you are all ready to Rock and Roll!
Step 9: Login to your WordPress
Using the Admin Username and password that you just set up, login to your WordPress. This will take you to the back-end of your WordPress site.
Step 10: Customize your Blog!
Now that you have your domain name and your hosting all set up, the fun begins! It is now time to customize your blog and really have it looking the way you want. WordPress has thousands of free themes to choose from. You can also purchase a theme. While researching themes, I discovered Angie Makes. I could not have been more pleased to have found her. She has many different themes to choose from which are all very customizable and affordable. If you ever have a question, just contact Angie and she is quick to respond and walk you through whatever it is you have questions about.
Once you have your theme picked out and your blog looking the way you want, now it is time to grow your blog and connect with other bloggers. Abby at Just a Girl and Her Blog has a great Ebook for bloggers called Building Framework. I highly recommend her book. It has so much great info from photography, working with brands, how to make money blogging, to growing your blog. Very resourceful Ebook that I continue to refer back to.
So there you have it! With a little work and a lot of experimentation you can create your own little space with which to spread your goals, ideas, and inspirations. After you have completed all these steps and have your new shiny blog up and running, leave a link below in the comments. I would love to stop by and say hi!
Good Luck on your blogging adventures!
