My bloggy friends and I are at it again. We had so much fun doing the Great Crate Challenge, that we decided to do something similar again! Since it is the season, we decided to all create something using the same craft pumpkins from Michaels to get everyone in the Fall/Halloween spirit.

These craft pumpkins come in 3 different sizes, and in 3 different colors at Michales. With everything that can be done to these craft pumpkins, I had so many ideas going on in my head, making it really hard to decide what to do. One thing I did know, is that I wanted to paint them. Once at the craft store I grabbed 3 white pumpkins (which were 50% off), craft paint (which was 30% off), and a few other various items that I thought I would try to incorporate.
I didn’t start to brainstorm until I had made my purchase and have everything at home. I knew that I wanted to paint them with each pumpkin having a different design, but with a unifying color scheme across all three. Michaels was having a great sale on Martha Stewart 2oz craft paint, so I grabbed a few of them in a few different colors. Arrowhead and Wet Cement are the two main colors that I used on each pumpkin.
I started off with my first pumpkin making it have a chevron stripe. I used scotch tape to achieve the chevron strip, painted the top part in the color Arrowhead, and the bottom part with Wet Cement. Once it was all dry I painted the stem and the outline of the stripe with Martha Stewart Gold Metallic craft paint.
For the second pumpkin, I separated the top and bottom part of the pumpkin with scotch tape making a diagonal stripe. I painted the whole bottom part with Wet Cement color, with the top part painting every other section with both colors, leaving one stripe white. Then painted the stem gold and the horizontal line.
With the last one, I made a horizontal stripe and painted one side in each color.
Once all the pumpkins were painted, it was time to do something more to them. When I was at Michaels, I purchased some wood slices. My initial thought was to paint them and tie them around the stem with our names on them, but after being painted they just weren’t coming together as I envisioned. So back to the drawing board. After some time brainstorming with my husband, we came up with the idea of embedding each one into the middle of each pumpkin and have it say, Trick-or-Treat.
I painted each wood slice with the color pumpkin from Martha Stewarts craft paint line, with the outline in the gold metallic. Then once it was dry, using white paint I painted each one in Trick, Or, Treat.
Then it was time to carve out the middle of each pumpkin to fit our wood slices. Place the wood slice where you want it on your pumpkin and trace around. Then using an X-acto knife, cut it out. Then place the wood slice inside. That is it, you don’t have to glue it or anything, it just stays!
After it all came together, I decided that I would use these as a Halloween candy dish. I have to say this was not what I had envisioned when I first started doing this, but I am so happy with how my decorative Halloween painted pumpkins turned out!
After deciding that I wanted to use these as a Halloween candy dish, my final idea came to me. Because they would be on a porch at night, I decided to go over the “white” parts of the pumpkins with Glow in the dark paint! I think it added a fun element to be used at night, and my little pumpkin loved watching them glow!
